There may be more interesting places to your start-up than Silicon Valley.

San Francisco, or Silicon Valley seems to be the only place to go for launching an online media startup, It seems that the Valley ecosystem -universities, investors, and entrepreneurs- has no equal around the world to make a start up successful.

Silicon Valley expert AnnaLee Saxenian of the University of California, Berkeley states: "Regions around the world have tried for decades to replicate the Silicon Valley experience, without success. There are also world-class technical universities all over that don’t generate ongoing commercial innovation and economic growth."

Is that true?

There are some who suggests a more urban tilt that may be emerging, that’s New York.

For instance, The New York Times has published a map showing the location of more than 400 New York City start-ups,

The fact is that  we entrepreneurs will move wherever is needed to get our start up move and running.

I agree with the article that we may be tired of the nerdistan model of the Valley and beginning to prefer bigger cities and more urban environments.

Silicon Valley is packed with startups from all over the world competing for the same capital and it has become really expensive to get some seed money. Moreover, if you want to hire engeneers -good or bad ones- you have to be ready to pay $10,000 as sign in bonus.

So, why should not we be trying other environments?

Chile? why not? Start-Up Chile is a program of the Chilean Government to attract world-class early stage entrepreneurs to start their businesses in Chile. In 2010, the program, at that point just a pilot, brought 22 startups from 14 countries to Chile, providing them with US$40,000 of equity-free seed capital, and a temporary 1-year visa to develop their projects for six months, along with access to the most potent social and capital networks in the country.

So, Silicon Valley may be great to start-ups, but there are many more places to go to try. Do not get blured by your own ego.
